About this Item
This 6.25 x 9.25 inch, 583 page hardcover book with dust jacket is the first edition of this title in 1969 by the Nebraska State Historical Society. This copy is in fine condition with the quarter-cloth maroon spine and blue textured cloth covers showing virtually no handling or age wear. The gilt lettering on the spine is clean and bright. The interior text pages are without markings or damage of any kind. The dust wrapper is in very good condition with moderate edge wear, just a bit of chipping along the lower edges, and two small half-inch tears at the spine foot. The jacket shows the unclipped price on the inside flap. This title remains as a landmark in the on-going documentation and research pertaining to the routing, travel, and experience along the great overland trail that began in a number of locations and moved across the American mid-section to the western territories. The author spent two decades amassing the information from original overall journals and then tracing the roadways through the twentieth century landscape. This book features numerous author maps as to the differing roadways along the Platte River of today's Nebraska and Wyoming. This book also is highlighted by reproductions of earlier sketchings and drawings of the overland route and experience. This book remains as a primary resource for anyone interested in the story of overland travel in the nineteenth century. 583 pages. Seller Inventory # 1505-800
