Everybody who looks at the Great Lakes knows they're big, but why are they Great? From sea serpents to sunken ships, from lonely lighthouses to fish on Prozac, this book engages the reader in a quest to find what's beneath the surface.
The next time you get into a debate about whether Lake Superior is the world’s largest lake, grab your copy of Fact or Fake and win the argument. Filled with forty important and occasionally esoteric topics, this quick and entertaining guide will enrich your Great Lakes knowledge and make you want to know even more about these amazing freshwater wonders. —Jane Elder, longtime Great Lakes advocate
A perfect read for families as they vacation on Great Lakes shores, for afternoon and bedtime reading, and for teachers to supplement their Great Lakes curriculum. Another writing win from our best Great Lakes expert. —Sally Cole-Misch, author of The Best Part of Us, a 2021 Readers' Favorite International Silver Medal in Literary Fiction
Are there whales in the Great Lakes? Sharks? Sea monsters, even? Did a king once live on an island in Lake Michigan? Read Dave Dempsey’s wonderfully engaging and richly informative book – written in the manner of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! – and find out. You’ll be absorbed by what you didn’t know, and enlightened by what you learn. —Tim Mulherin, author of Sand, Stars, Wind, & Water: Field Notes from Up North

FLOW’s mission is to ensure the waters of the Great Lakes Basin are healthy, public, and protected for all. The public trust doctrine holds that certain natural resources like navigable waters are preserved in perpetuity for the benefit of the public to use and enjoy. Under the public trust, the waters of the Great Lakes Basin can never be controlled by or transferred to private interests for private purposes or gain. Our rights to use the water of the Great Lakes Basin cannot be alienated or subordinated by our governments to special private interests. Founded in 2011 by pioneering environmental leader and attorney Jim Olson, FLOW is tackling, among other threats, the antiquated Line 5 petroleum pipeline through the Straits of Mackinac, the commercialization of water, and raw sewage contaminating groundwater and surface water.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
