Melodeigh Matthews is the typical mid-30's millennial. After years of unfulfilled dreams and boredom, she is now a society hostess to her husband's high-powered finance exec job. She is trying to get her influencer brand off the ground while selling the latest popular MLM to keep busy; her carefully curated life looks good from the outside, but she's empty on the inside.
Chandler Matthews, Melodeigh's husband, is also in his mid- to late-30's, with the typical All-American good looks and clean-cut personality. He and Melodeigh knew each other growing up, their families having been friends for years, but they'd lost touch before reconnecting in college and marrying soon after graduation and moving to the big city for a prestigious job in international finance.
The Matthews were happily married but years of drifting along together have left them both growing apart and wondering what happened; It comes to a head when it comes out that Chandler has been having an affair with his secretary and Melodeigh has been seeing Jace Collins, a close family friend of theirs. Chandler leaves for a work trip, and Melodeigh decides to have one last fling, but things go wrong when Melodeigh finds out the hard way that the family friend is a mean drunk behind closed doors and barely manages to get away in time, but she's left on the side of the road. where she eventually wanders into the small town of Aspen Hollow.
Chandler winds up in Aspen Hollow after coming home from his work trip to find Melodeigh missing without a word and tracking her down by following the trail left by their friend, who'd also tracked Melodeigh down before being taught a lesson there.
As they repair their relationship and work through their troubles and communication issues, Melodeigh also fixes up the town's diner, reopening it as the Greasy Pig Diner. As the diner slowly reopens, their relationship is also slowly repaired until they decide to live in Aspen Hollow permanently, (almost) happily ever after.
