Biography of one of America's most famous regional painters, Grant Wood 1891-1942). Wood created possibly the most recognizable 20th century American painting, the hard-boiled farm scene "American Gothic". Though known for the simplicity of his paintings of homespun, simple, decent American traditional values, this biography reveals the artist as anythin but plain or simple. He called himself a "farm painter" and apperaed to be self-taught but in reality he was classically trained , a sophisticated artist who had studies the Old Masters, Flemish atrt, and impressionism.
