Print on Demand. This book chronicles the experiences of Mary Pruyn, an American who journeyed to Japan in 1871 to work as a Christian missionary. The author's narrative provides a glimpse into the lives of both Japanese and Chinese people during the late 19th century, and shines a light on the stark differences in culture, religion, and societal norms. Pruyn's work as a teacher and missionary showed her both the beauty and the challenges of living in a country so different from her own. Through her eyes, readers will discover the fascinating history of Japan, from its traditions and customs to the political and social changes that were taking place during this time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

With the consent of the little folks to whom they were written, - the most of them my grandchildren, I have gathered up some of those letters, and in precisely the simple and familiar style in which they were written to my own dear little ones, I send them out to the children of our Sabbath schools and Christian families.
