Print on Demand. This book is a collection of Grace Book A, a collection of graces that were passed by the Senate of the University of Cambridge during 47 academical years from 1542 to 1589. These graces primarily document the passing of degrees for various graduation years and contain both records of student performance and university policy. Through these documents, we see the seeds of modern higher education during a time of immense reformation across Britain. Changes in the religious and academic landscape brought about by figures like Henry VIII and the subsequent monarch's reforms can be observed through these detailed admissions, appointments, and roll calls that constitute this book. Unlike the volumes that follow, this record is written in a single hand, possibly by a trained scribe. The text has been collated, edited, and includes an index of contents. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Perhaps the word Caput is answerable for the belief which seems to bave been held by some persons, that that body consisted of a lot of old Heads. In botb respects such an opinion is singularly Wide of the mark. The present Council must have five Heads four elected, and the vice-chancellor; the old Caput need not bave had one, for even the vice-chancellor was not always of that order. As a matter of fact it sometimes included only one. In regard to the age of the members the reader is referred to the note above.
