Print on Demand. This book is an exposition of Christian doctrine as it is derived from Scripture and has developed historically. The author's first concern is to set forth the classical affirmations of the historic Christian faith, those foundational truths that have ceaselessly defined the church's essence. Each chapter focuses on a central Christian doctrine or theme, and examines its biblical and historical development, and its practical significance in everyday life. At the same time, the author dialogues with differing perspectives from other philosophical and theological traditions. This book will equip and encourage all who are seeking to understand the foundational truths of the Christian faith. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

Now, these are the Opposite effects of the preaching of the gospel; and, like a faithful witness, whose testimony is for the just, but against the unjust, so the faithful testimony of the gospel makes manifest both the children of light and the children of darkness. To the one it ministers the knowledge and joy of salvation, with the sweet assurance that he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life but to the other it declares that he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on - John 3; 36.
