Thirteen-year-old Annabelle Cross can't explain where the island came from. She does know it’s the only haven after her boat is destroyed. She isn’t alone here. Imprisoned children show her how to overcome the island's unusual trials and the sinister creatures determined at capturing them.
Nothing here is what it seems. There are mysterious lights at the bottom of the lake and a dark palace deep in the woods. A pirate-like green ship guards the island’s borders, allowing no one to escape. And shadows stalk the children by night, taking them to places unknown. It’s only the beginning of the incredible strangeness the island offers.
Annabelle finds a promise of returning home when she’s shown what the children have hidden deep in the island. It’s a project built on hope and the only plan to set them free. But when a spy reveals their secret, the moment arrives to escape, only to face the island's controlling force, a wickedness as old as time.
A doorway opens, and a fantastic journey awaits inside for those daring enough to walk through…
In the tradition of timeless stories like The Swiss Family Robinson, Peter Pan, Lord of the Flies, and The Chronicles of Narnia, Jeremy M. Wright has woven fantasy, adventure, and the struggles to survive against all the odds. A tale told in first-person narration is a vivid, family fun, and crazy ride across a world of strange and wonderful possibilities.

The Good Ship is a wonderful escape that challenges the imagination and evokes feelings of wonder. I believe it will be thoroughly enjoyed by people of all ages. If you’re looking for light reading that has a touch of fantasy, a little humor, and a lot of action, this book is for you!

It has all the ingredients needed for this type of novel.....a mysterious sea attack....survival the first night on an island inhabited by other children....an island in which everything including trees has their own territorial rights. It’s The Swiss Family Robinson meets The Twilight Zone!
Goodreads
I found The Good Ship to be an enjoyable read and the story was paced really well. It’s a fun, island adventure story unlike any other and perfect for younger readers.
