This 5.75 x 8.75, xvi, 321 page book is in near fine condition. The red cloth cover is bright and unblemished with virtually no wear showing to the edges, corners, or covers. The printing in black and the front cover decoration are bright and clear. The interior of the book is in near fine condition if not better. The dust jacket is also in near fine condition, the one issue would be some sun fading to the spine. Other than that the jacket shows very little wear to the edges and its folds. The book in its time was recognized as one of the best treatments of the gold rush. John Walton Caughey was widely recognized for his historical research and work and in this work Caughey discusses the discovery of gold in 1848 and the early rush to California, and the early mining tools used to mine the ore. 321 pages.
