Review
John McCrone is a journalist and author of The Ape That Spoke and The Myth of Irrationality. In Going Inside he describes in astonishing detail the full breadth of research up to the present. The reader is introduced to the wave upon wave of new thought and techniques that have revolutionised "mind science" and particularly the study of consciousness. This book teeters on the cutting edge of modern neuroscience. Nor does it shy away from the contributions of social psychology and the knotty problems of philosophy.
Pacy and stimulating with a short section of colour illustrations, Going Inside is up there with the best of science writing. A greater use of illustrations would have opened this book up to a wider audience but this is still a tremendous read for those with an interest in, and a little basic knowledge of, the subject. --Douglas Pretsell
