The Many Gods Anthologies Volume I: Hekate
Edited by Vikki Bramshaw
Hekate is one of the most fascinating and widely honoured deities of the ancient world. Known as the Greek Goddess of the Crossroads, Witchcraft, Magic and the Night, she has inspired poets, philosophers, magicians and devotees for more than two thousand years. In recent decades, interest in Hekate has grown dramatically, giving rise to new communities, devotional practices and a flourishing body of scholarship devoted to understanding her mysteries.
The Many Gods Anthologies Volume I: Hekate brings together an international collection of writers, scholars and practitioners exploring both the historical roots and contemporary worship of Hekate. Contributors from Europe and the Americas examine a wide range of themes, including household devotion, dreamwork, hero cult, theatre, Orphic tradition, sacred geography, personal gnosis and the growing presence of Hekate in modern spiritual and magical practice.
Highlights include Sorita d'Este's exploration of Hekate and household devotion, Ness Bosch's examination of Hekate in Iberia, Emily Carding's reflections on the creation of Hekate Genesis, B. P. Shoop's study of Medea, hero cult and spiritual ancestry, Francine Derschner's insights into Hekate at the Brazilian crossroads, Carrie Kirkpatrick's work on dreams and oracles, Christina Moraiti's examination of the Orphic Hymn to Hekate, Karin Rainbird's discussion of contemporary Orphic tradition, and Larry Phillips' exploration of the signs and sacred numbers associated with the Goddess.
Combining historical research, contemporary polytheist perspectives and first-hand devotional experience, this anthology offers a unique snapshot of the modern revival of Hekate worship. The essays reflect the diversity of voices, traditions and experiences that make up today's global Hekatean community, whilst remaining rooted in the rich mythology, symbolism and enduring mysteries of this remarkable Goddess.
Whether your interest lies in Hekate, Greek mythology, ancient religion, modern paganism, witchcraft, polytheism or devotional practice, this collection provides a fascinating exploration of one of the most influential and enduring goddesses of the ancient world.
