God With Us:: Stories of Christmas. This item is unavailable.God With Us:: Stories of Christmas

Upon the retirement of The Reverend David Ruhe and in celebration of his 20 years of ministry, Plymouth Congregatioinal United Church of Christ of Des Moines has collected and published the sometimes quirky, sometimes haunting, always thoughtful stories David wrote and read to the congregation every Christmas. Of these stories he says, “Christmas is a time for stories, for telling as truthfully and simply as we can how God comes to be present in the midst of life—any life, every life, your life and mine.” These stories of ordinary people remind us that our lives, too, are stories, narratives in which God is being revealed. They encourage us to notice God’s presence in our own life and look for God in the lives of others. So, settle into a comfortable chair, light a candle, and read aloud—to yourself or to your family—letting the truth of Christmas, shining through these stories, warm your heart.

David Ruhe has been a minister in the United Church of Christ since 1974, serving pastorates in Connecticut, Nebraska and Iowa. He and his wife Priscilla, a former Family Practice physician, are retired and live in Des Moines. They have two grown sons and a Golden Retriever.
