B. C. 30. Augustus was the first Emperor of Rome, and reigned forty four years About the thirtieth year of his reign the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. This is the beginning of the Christian Era. Tiberius succeeded Augustus and reigned twenty-three years. Luke says that John the Baptist began his ministry in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius. Christ was crucified during his reign, and it, is related that Pi late wrote to him on account of the Life, Miracles and Passion of the Lord Jesus, which Tiberius communicated to the Senate, with a request that Jesus should be honored among the gods of the Romans, which the Senate refused on account of the recommendation coming from the Emperor as that body was exceedingly jealous of its rights and prerogatives.
