In 1951, at the age of 26, an unknown British actor was signed by Richard Zanuck of 20th Century Fox on a three film deal worth $250,000. Zanuck doubled his salary to $500,000 and Burton never looked back, eventually starring in the most expensive film ever made at the time, Cleopatra, and then marrying the world's biggest female star of the time, Elizabeth Taylor.
