Signed. First Edition. First Edition. Signed by the Author. Tom Rubython’s And God Created Burton is a vivid, full-throttle biography of Richard Burton, tracing his journey from a poverty-stricken childhood in Pontrhydyfen to global fame as one of the most magnetic actors of the 20th century. Rubython paints Burton as a man of immense talent and equally immense contradictions: disciplined yet self-destructive, fiercely intelligent yet prone to excess, capable of breathtaking performances and turbulent relationships. The book delves deeply into Burton’s Welsh roots, his rise through theatre and film, and of course his legendary, tempestuous partnership with Elizabeth Taylor. Rubython combines detailed research with a brisk, dramatic narrative, giving a sense of Burton’s charisma, his insecurities, and the mythic scale of his life. A bold, engrossing portrait of a man who lived—and loved—with operatic intensity. First Edition SIGNED COPY.
