Most people imagine organised activities, knot tying, campfires and badges.
They're right...
...but they're only seeing half the story.
When John Hemming-Clark became a Scout Leader in Chislehurst, Kent, he expected adventure, challenge and the occasional camping trip.
What he didn't expect was to find himself navigating a world of unforgettable characters, unpredictable young people and a seemingly endless supply of situations that no amount of leader training could possibly prepare him for.
Based on true events, In You Go! is a warm, witty and wonderfully honest account of the first year or two in the life of a new Scout Leader. Packed with humour and affectionate observations, it's a book that anyone involved in Scouting—or anyone who has ever worked with young people—will instantly recognise.
Inside you'll discover...
*How John became a Scout Leader after being sacked as Scout Group Committee Chairman.
*The first troop meeting... attended by just one Scout—until three girls arrived.
*The legendary hammock camp when a "tsunami" appeared out of nowhere.
*A hike where some Scouts unexpectedly took up smoking.
*The day Bear Grylls ran over John's phone.
*A Beaver Nativity play that went spectacularly off script.
*A camp where a Guide won the "Best Scout" award.
*An Outdoor Challenge weekend that ended with one missing welly.
*The April Fool's badge the Scouts actually completed.
*The day the Scouts hiked alongside a sewer.
*A white-water rafting adventure that nearly ended in disaster.
*And dozens more true stories from meetings, camps, hikes and adventures.
Whether you've been a Scout, a Guide, a leader, a parent or simply enjoy real-life stories filled with gentle British humour, In You Go! offers a delightful glimpse behind the scenes of one of the world's best-loved youth organisations.
You'll laugh at the misunderstandings, recognise the characters and probably find yourself remembering your own adventures along the way.
This is the book that launched John Hemming-Clark's writing career and inspired many of his later books, including his collections of Scout games, campfire skits, camp letters and the adventures of Horace Horrise.
Funny. True. Heart-warming.
Welcome to life as a Scout Leader... In You Go!

Store description
In 2002, World of Books Group was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. Since then, we've grown into to a global company pioneering the circular economy. Today, we drive the circular economy through three re-commerce brands: - Wob: Through Wob, we sell. We provide affordable, preloved books and media to customers all over the world. A book leaves our collection of over seven million titles and begins a new chapter every two seconds, enabling more goods to be reused. - Ziffit: Through Ziffit, we buy. We give people around the world the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet, by trading their unwanted books and media. - Shopiago: Through Shopiago, we help others. By sharing the technology that has grown World of Books Group into the business it is today, we’re helping charities increase revenue and reduce waste through re-commerce.…
