"Let'S Go to Poplar!" provides an evocative and firsthand account of life and social mission work in London's East End during the early twentieth century. Written by William G. Lax, a prominent figure in the Methodist mission movement, this work explores the social landscape of the Poplar district, documenting the struggles and resilience of its working-class inhabitants. The narrative offers a series of sketches and reflections that illustrate the profound impact of community-focused ministry and the efforts to alleviate the hardships of poverty in one of London's most iconic neighborhoods.

Focusing on the intersection of faith and social reform, the book serves as a valuable historical record of the urban mission movement. Lax's writing brings the streets of the docklands to life, detailing the humanitarian challenges of the era while emphasizing a message of hope and service. "Let'S Go to Poplar!" is an insightful read for those interested in British social history, the evolution of Christian missions, and the historical development of the East End. It captures a pivotal moment in social history where religious institutions played a central role in advocating for the welfare of the urban poor.
