12mo. Full brown paper boards. Top edge yellow. 292 pp. B&W illustrations in text. Boards stained and soiled, spine ends bumped, small spots of wear to lower corners. Offsetting to endpapers from dust jacket. Bookseller ticket of Diggon-Hebben Ltd., Victoria B.C., to front pasteodown. Dust jacket is cropped to flaps, lightly edge worn, chipped to extremities (with some loss at spine ends), a few short tears, rubbing to covers and spine, soiling to rear. If you want a novel that begins very deceptively, with a quiet fireside scene between a man and his mistress in their querulous middle-years, speeds up to the hilarious tempo of a mad ride on a hook-and-ladder, and ends in accents of a low stag party, this is your book.
