- Book 1 of 1: It Ain't All Glitz & Glamour! Part One.
"It Ain't All Glitz and Glamour" by Byron Gibson is a captivating memoir that takes you on a roller coaster ride through the ups and downs of a film career. In 2008, Byron found himself thrust into the thick of things in a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. As a complete industry novice, he had no idea how things operated and was suddenly thrown into the mix with one of the most prominent martial arts figures of the 1990s.
We embark on a journey of intrigue and action where Byron chronicles his experiences working on Hollywood film sets, working with icons Eric Roberts, Steven Seagal, Kevin Bacon, Djimon Housou, and director John Woo. We get an insider's look into Only God Forgives and the preparation process for this intense role, where Byron had the privilege of working alongside talented actors Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas. To his joy, the crowds walked out in disgust at the Cannes film festival during the screening of the film's torture scene, as it was so intense and real. That's not all—get ready for heart-racing fight scenes on aeroplanes and free diving in Monaco with a Casino Royale Bond Girl. In one chapter, Byron finds himself in a working brothel while waiting to be filmed on The Hangover Part 2. He writes about the challenges of filming an action movie amidst a military coup d'état in a Southeast Asian country, which could have resulted in imprisonment. He seizes the opportunity to collaborate with Brick Mansions actor and esteemed parkour expert, David Belle. He covers filming on dilapidated and dangerous cruise liners, filming fight scenes with contaminated river water, and one movie ending up in intensive care.
If that's not enough, we travel to Indonesia as he sets out to audition for a film role and stunt gig. This wild chapter delves into his experience of getting entangled with an Indonesian scammer known as the "Con Queen of Hollywood" and the events that followed, potentially leading to a hostage situation. We go to the premiere of "Rise of the Footsoldier Marbella," detailing the infamous incident involving a belligerent thug.
With raw honesty, he reveals the realities behind the glitz and glamour, showcasing the true grit and determination required to thrive in the film business. Prepare to be inspired and entertained as you follow Byron's remarkable journey, filled with passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of his dreams. This book is a must-read for film aspiring actors, film enthusiasts and anyone curious about the realities of the entertainment industry.
