Hardcover. Brigid McGregor is adrift in the quiet house she once shared with her beloved husband, Jack. The sympathy cards have stopped coming, and the flowers have long-since faded. Only Gabe, Jack's stubborn but cherished old rescued dog, remains. Unfortunately, Brigid never had the close relationship with the dog that Jack did. Until the morning Gabe spoke to her. With eyes wiser than she'd ever noticed, Gabe becomes both companion and guide through their shared journey of loss and their year of firsts without Jack. With Gabe by her side, Brigid stumbles through the fog of grief into moments of unexpected wonder: walks on the beach, a hidden talent, a new friendship, and even the return of joy.Together, they uncover not only a secret legacy Jack left behind, but a life neither Brigid nor Gabe ever imagined they could build together. The Gift of Gabe is a tender, and sometimes light-hearted, adult fantasy about letting go, holding on, and finding magic in the most unlikely places, even when that magic is in the shape of an old dog with a gift for gab. After her husband's death, Brigid is left his dog, who startes talking. Together they go through the year of firsts. The Gift of Gabe is a magical story of loss, love, and second chances.
