Paperback. The Ghosts of Nottoway and Other Southside Virginia Tales explores the haunted history, folklore, mysteries, and unexplained stories of Nottoway County and the surrounding Southside Virginia region. Drawing from historic newspapers, published accounts, local records, eyewitness interviews, and personal experiences, author David Chappuis revisits stories of restless spirits, forgotten tragedies, strange creatures, UFO sightings, and other mysteries that have lingered in the region for generations. From old homes, churches, cemeteries, and the Nottoway Courthouse Green to the former Camp Pickett, the railroad towns of Blackstone, Burkeville, and Crewe, and the back roads of rural Southside Virginia, the book blends documented history with the stories people have told about these places-and asks what might remain when history refuses to be forgotten. Part local history and part journey into the unexplained, The Ghosts of Nottoway and Other Southside Virginia Tales preserves a collection of stories from a corner of Virginia where the past is never very far away.
