Fresh out of college and out of place in a world he thought he'd left behind, Jake returns to his family's remote California ranch after the death of his Aunt. The land is dry, the fences are falling, and the town of Hedit hasn't changed a bit. Except now it feels like it's hiding something.
His old flame, Natalie, is now the town's librarian, sharp-tongued and still as beautiful as the California sun. But even she seems on edge, guarded by secrets buried deeper than the roots of the bristlecone trees.
Then there's the trouble with The Good Time Boys. A rough, smiling crew of local men with too much influence and not enough conscience. What starts out as petty trash talk escalates into something darker, more calculated.
When Jake stumbles across a rusting war-era airplane hidden deep in the woods, he sets off a chain reaction of mystery, violence, and revelation. Tucked inside the wreck are drugs, bones, and the ghosts of secrets the town has been trying to bury for decades.
Guided by a mysterious, hermit cowboy who knows too much and shoots too well, Jake learns the dying art of the six-shooter, and what it means to stand your ground when the past won't stay buried.
As family truths unravel and the town's twisted history comes to light, Jake must decide what kind of man he's going to be: the kind who runs, or the kind who fights.
Gritty, fast-paced, and steeped in modern noir, The Ghost Man is a new kind of western-one where the frontier isn't just land, but legacy.
