Print on Demand. This book is an investigation into the role of the Selbmebibit, a personal aide or confidant to a German prince during the 18th century. The aide's influence was felt in politics, courtly and social life, and even extended to decisions about the sovereign's private life. The author claims this mysterious office has not received proper attention, and thus sets out to correct the historical oversight and highlight the role the aides played in German history. The book's main focus is on the period between the late 17th and the early 19th centuries; however, special attention is given to the situation in Bavaria and Württemberg, where the office of the aide was particularly powerful during this time frame. Beyond its historical value, this book offers a fascinating look at the relationship between ruler and confidant, and sheds light on the complex social and political dynamics of German court life during the late Enlightenment and early Romantic era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
