Exquisite album of calligraphy and elaborate pen work design, with minute designs within the lines forming a letter, and full of elaborate floral drawings far more sophisticated than Folk Art. Also loops and geometric inked embroidering. Especially impressive is a drawing of two hands, one wielding a compass, the other, a pen, essentially documenting the artist's tools and technique. Oblong, 17 by 19.5 cm. 64 pages with calligraphy and penwork, one of which is folding, and five other pages with insciptions or other content. Some blank leaves, but the album is mostly full. Occasional daubs of color, we would add. We find it challenging to read the now obsolete styte of cursive Porter used in the greater body of his texts. The ornate Fraktur of the first few words of each page and entry, though, is easily accessible, apart from its striking beauty. Contemporary quarter calf binding. Cover heavily worn, with boards somewhat eaten and also bowed. Leaves very heavily browned, stained, and ink blobs from the ink seaping through the leaves. Still an album of great beauty, and critically, no losses.…

Shipping terms
The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
