Here are both volumes of Fritz Schalk's monumental study of the French Moralist Philosophers, in which Schalk edited and translated selections from French into German. The books were published in 1938 (Vol 1) & 1940 (Vol. 2) by Dietrich Schen in Wiesbaden; Volume I contains a Foreword by Karl Vossler. Vol 1 : [xl] + 362 pages; Vol. 2: [lviii] + 348 pages; each approximately 4" x 6 7/8", decorated wraps. CONDITION : - NEAR VERY GOOD - Well-used, with highly toned paper and the following noted: EXTERIOR : Wear and creasing to spines, as well as abrasion; corner tips softly bumped; surface rub is modest. Text-block edges are considerably toned and display a touch of rub. Modest weathering along edges - more so to spines. / BINDING : Still holding, with no detached or loose leaves. the books should be handled with care. / INTERIOR : Paper is considerably toned; there are some leaf corner creases and bumps - a few small smudges or spots (nothing egregious) - I spotted inked marginal marks (contemporary with the books - these are few and widely scattered - I show one of them above) (there could be some light pencil marks, but I didn't see any).
