About this Item

Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First Edition. 6 x 9". Brown boards with gilt lettering on spine. Tan dust jacket with brown lettering on front panel and spine. Boards have some mild spots of discoloration; there is some mild foxing to fore-edge and top edge; neatly inked inscription to previous owner on rear endpaper. Jacket is price-clipped, a bit crimped along top edge, with two small closed tears at top of spine, but is otherwise whole and has good color. Bonner presents the history of the part of Georgia that lies just southwest of Atlanta and west of the Chattahoochee River. During the 1830s, Carroll County was Georgia's most exposed frontier to the Indian nations along its northern and western borders. The book demonstrates the vicissitudes of frontier life complicated by the presence of Indians (both friendly and hostile) and by cattle rustlers and horse thieves. Illustrated with maps and photographs, including a 1925 photo of Carroll County Confederate veterans, James Kuglar, Charles Bloodworth, James Bryce, Howard Pitts, George Cheney, George Lyle, John Mullinix, George W. Harper, Brainard Hewey, Henry C. Reeves, Billy Spence, Thomas Jackson, W. O. Perry, John Moore, MacDonald Aldridge, and John Bowen. 236 pages, endnotes, appendices, bibliography, index; illustrated with maps and photos. Size: 6 x 9". Bookseller Inventory # 000728
