Geopolymer Concrete Structures with Steel and FRP Reinforcements: Analysis and Design focuses on structural behavior, including the aspects of compression, bending strength and combined action of GPC members, with the book's content based on published studies over the last two decades. Geopolymer concrete (GPC) structural members reinforced with FRP reinforcement have some advantages in resisting forces compared to conventional concrete or steel tubular members. Among the most important are the high strength and bending stiffness, fire and impact performance and favorable, construction ability and durability.
To this end, there are no significant applications of these new structural elements worldwide, partly due to the lack of the understanding of their behavior and insufficient design provisions in different design manuals. This book, therefore, seeks to highlight their characteristics and future potential.
- Provides comprehensive, up-to-date advances on Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) reinforced with steel and FRP bars and stirrups construction with a summary of over 100 papers published in the last decade
- Compares the behavior and failure modes between Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) structures and Ordinary Portland Concrete (OPC) structures
- Explains important concepts such as bond, confinement, fracture of stirrups and buckling of FRP bars
- Includes an in-depth analysis of ultimate strength of GPC and OPC, considering governing failure modes
- Presents design examples following international standards, including North America ACI 440.1R-15, Canadian CAN/CSA S806, and Australian such as AS 3600

About the Author
Dr Bo Yang is currently a full professor in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China. He obtained his PhD in 2013 from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His expertise includes experimental tests and numerical modelling of steel and composite structures under progressive collapse scenarios. He serves as reviewers for several top international journals in structural engineering, such as Journal of Constructional Steel Research and Engineering Structures. He is listed in Stanford University 2020 list of the top 2% scientists in the world.
Mr Kuanhong Mao is a PhD candidate in the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, China. At present, he is committed to develop new building materials. In addition, he specialises in experiments and numerical modelling of steel and composite structures.
Dr Pham BE, PhD is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Curtin University, Australia. He is ranked within the top 2% of researchers in the world in 2021 (one year measure). Pham has published 134 technical papers including 1 book chapter, 3 keynote papers, 105 peer-reviewed journal articles, and 25 conference papers. 9 of his publications have been listed as the most-cited papers in respective journals (SJR Q1). He co-chaired the 7th international conference on Protection of Structures against Hazards in Hanoi, Viet Nam. Pham is currently an elected committee member of Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA), WA. Pham’s research has been well regarded through half dozen research awards and recognitions. Pham as a chief investigator won five competitive research grants and many industrial projects, > $800k in total. He is an editorial board member of two international journals including International Journal of Protective Structures and Journal of Science and Technology in Civil Engineering.
