About this Item
Original printed wraps 22x27cm. Printed by Dar al Uloom Establishment, Doha. 13pp English text including 3 full-page b/w maps captioned in English and Arabic + 9pp Arabic text. Near fine. This is a very early work produced by Qatar's Faculty of Education, which had been established in 1973. Soliman is here credited as its Professor of Geology. However, his remit was wider than this, as he had been charged with developing the Faculty's Science Department, and was active in taking forward its marine sciences with UNESCO and other international experts. This paper, assisted by Qatar's Department of Petroleum Affairs, describes the geologic setting, stratigraphy, tectonics, and mineral deposits. A summary of mining activities since 1970 reveals that Qatar had prepard new base and geologic maps, taken aerial photos, and written various studies on exploration, construction materials, and gypsum. Soliman himself was the first to discover hitherto unrecorded "marbly rocks of high quality and economic feasibility" in October 1973, with investigations presently underway. The maps show Qatar's location, major surface structural features, and geology. Rare. Seller Inventory # 4680
