Print on Demand. This book provides an introduction to the field of geology, focusing particularly on the descriptive geology of fossil-bearing stratified rocks and the broader knowledge that can be gleaned from them. The book is divided into three parts: the first provides basic principles, definitions, and a descriptive vocabulary for the classification of rocks and rock formation. The second part presents a descriptive geology of fossiliferous strata, while the third offers an account of practical applications of geology, such as mining and engineering. Thematic depth is achieved through the inclusion of information on the nature of igneous rocks, with a particular focus on volcanoes and volcanic activity. The author also discusses the broader implications of geology on the understanding of human history and the interrelationship between various scientific disciplines. The book is significant for the comprehensive overview it provides of the field of descriptive geology, making it a valuable resource for students and scholars alike. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Nor is this all. The wide and marked distinction that exists between the general character and appearance of those groups of animals whose remains are found fossil in Secondary rocks and those of a more recent date, is scarcely less remarkable than the fact of the introduction of so many new species and genera.
