8vo. Original yellow cloth-backed boards, with gilt decoration. 340 pages. Covers a little rubbed and dusty, some spotting to prelims and light surface loss to lower right of upper cover. A nice acceptable copy. A scandalous work by James McNeill Whistler, written part in response and part a transcript of his libel suit against John Ruskin, a famous and controversial case. During an exhibition Ruskin had insulted a painting of Whistler's. In this work Whistler presents a response in the form of a collection of letters sent to newspapers chronicling Whistler's petty grievances against friends and acquaintances. Size 20.5 x16.5 x4cm [ 8.25 x 6 x1.5 inches].
