Two very scarce but impressively informative supplements to the General Stud Book, providing a detailed account of England's brood mares and foals in the late nineteenth century. Two very scarce supplementary volumes to Weatherby's General Stud Book. With both volumes containing a 'return of brood mares and list of foals' for the previous years, present here is the 1894 'Second Supplement to Vol. XVII' and the 1899 'Third Supplement to Vol. XVIII'.Each volume contains an alphabetically arranged list of mares in England and Ireland, followed by a list of foals. The total number of mares accounted for in the 1894 volume is 5,575, and the total accounted for in the 1899 volume 5,734.The 1899 volume bares a number of stamps from the Newcastle Chronicle Library, to the front free endpaper, title page, advertisement leaf, and the head of a number of further pages, not obscuring the text. The 1894 volume is without these markings. In the publisher's original full cloth bindings. Externally, very smart, with bumping to spine heads and tails. Front hinge of 1894 vol starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to a number of pages of 1899 volume. Pages otherwise clean and bright. Very Good. …
