Provocative and highly readable, Gender Issues in the Teaching of English makes clear that the first step towards developing a gender-balanced learning environment is an awareness of the ways gender differences in language play themselves out in the classroom.
Nancy McCracken and Bruce Appleby have collected the voices of women and men--high school and college teachers and their students. The contributors are all teacher-researchers who write from their own experience and whose questions about gender differences led to inquiry and reflection on how they might alter their teaching and their research.
