? This interesting little volume is the first edition of this title published in San Francisco by C. W. Gordon in 1875.? The book is in at least good condition, with the textured maroon cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the front cover and spine.? The cover shows wear, at the spine top and bottom and at the corners, with the two bottom corners just worn through.? There are two spots on the front cover, and some ?scratchings? on the back, but the binding is tight.? The interior text is still securely bound, but shows some little spots, smudges, and just a touch of foxing on the first few pages.? Overall, the text pages are in very good condition.? The text has a preface introducing ?a little volume? of poems?, a brief introduction, and then some 49 poems, the last of which is titled ?Curley Dan? ?Our partner?s name was Curley Dan - His twisted locks had game his name; He somehow didn?t like the plan - Of working like an honest man; So selling out his part of the claim - He started out to hunt the game. ?Good bye,? he said, my honest pards, I?m off to try my luck at cards.?Dan becomes a winner, until he faces the devil himself for his last game. 181+ pages.
