About the Author

Dale Purves ist der George-B.-Geller-Professor f�r Neurobiologie Emeritus am Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, wo er weiterhin als Forschungsprofessor t�tig ist. Zudem hat er zus�tzliche Professuren im Bereich Psychologie und Gehirnwissenschaften sowie in der Abteilung f�r Philosophie an der Duke University inne. Nach dem Erwerb eines B.A. in Yale, einem M.D. in Harvard und einer zus�tzlichen postdoktoralen Ausbildung am Harvard und University College London trat er 1973 der Fakult�t der Washington University School of Medicine bei. 1990 wurde er der Gr�ndungsleiter der Abteilung f�r Neurobiologie am Duke Medical Center und war anschlie�end Direktor des Duke Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. Au�erdem war er Direktor des Neuroscience and Behavioral Disorders Program an der Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapur.

Purves ist bekannt f�r seine Arbeiten zur neuronalen Entwicklung und synaptischen Plastizit�t. In den letzten 20 Jahren konzentrierte sich seine Forschung darauf, die visuelle Wahrnehmung und die auditorische Wahrnehmung im Kontext von Musik zu erkl�ren.
