Andr� Green examines the boundaries and transitions between somatic and psychic, inside and outside, the self and the other. He places the so-called "border cases" at the centre of his theory formation on a kind of �turntable�, from which neurosis and psychosis, but also perversion and depression can be better understood. For Green, the death instinct concept is not the end of psychoanalysis, but a challenge to adequately take into account the "inner war" between eros and destructivity in analytical theory and practice; only in this way can analytical ways out of masochism and negative therapeutic response be found.
