8vo; original purple boards; laminated pictorial dustwrapper; pp. (viii) + 117. Gift inscription to front free endpaper; tape marks to free endpapers. Very good condition. Afrikaans text. 'Hierdie keur uit Van Wyk Louw se prosa is geen akademiese studie nie, maar leesstof vir gewone lesers soos talle wat sy artikels en rubrieke by hul oorspronklike verskyning in koerante en tydskrifte gelees of na sy praatjies oor die radio geluister het. Die oudste stukke waaruit uittreksels gemaak is, het Van Wyk Louw al in 1936 geskryf; die laaste het hy 'n paar maande voor sy dood in 1970 oor die radio gelewer. Al kom sy woorde óór die kloof van jare, is dit asof die denker, digter en dramaturg nóú met ons praat in daardie Oop Gesprek wat so na aan sy hart gelê het. Dit is die woorde van iemand wat sy lewe lank die vraag gestel het: "Wat is wáár? Wat kan ek wéét, wat kan ek glo? Waaraan kan ek vashou?" Iemand wat "onverbreekbaar verbind [was] in liefde en noodlot en skuld aan die volk wat hy waag om te bestraf". En wat "daartoe gekom [het] om sonder die bril van 'n enkele -isme die wêreld met 'n skoon oog te bekyk".'.
