1849. New edition. 803 pages. Full red leather with raised bands and gilt lettering to spine; gilt tooling to boards, edges and turn-ins. Black and white and occasional colour illustrations throughout including double-page maps. Gilt edges to textblock. Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Binding remains firm. Dedication, small tear, and bookseller's stamp to front free endpaper. Mild warping to all pages. Moderate foxing to plates. Boards have moderate wear with bumped and abraded corners. Spine ends similarly worn and spine itself scuffed. Gilt slightly dulled. Board surfaces moderately scratched and rubbed. Gilt is bright.
