Item description from seller

Octavo, pp., vi, [2] errata, 443, [9] index, plus folding plan of the theatre of Bacchus. Publisher's original grey cloth, titled to paper spine label. Book label of one 'James Renshaw' to front paste-down. Spine sunned, cloth lightly rubbed, corners bumped, hinges a little weak but binding square and solid. Contents evenly and lightly toned. A neat and well-preserved copy. A scarce antiquarian study of ancient peoples, primarily of the Isles of Britain and Ireland, by an Irish genealogist and herald. William Betham (1779-1853) was Ulster King of Arms (1820-53), a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and of the American Antiquarian Society, Betham is best recognised for his creation of pedigrees from all of the perogative wills of Ireland from 1536-1800. This volume is Betham's attempt to describe the genealogical origins of a number of ancient peoples.
