SELDOM FOUND * * FIRST & ONLY OBSCURE EDITION * * . *** **** *** . . A STUNNING AND IMPORTANT PRIMARY RESOURCE . . . AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY BY THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE . . . COMMONWEALTH OF THE PHILIPPINES . . . INTRODUCTION BY DOUGLAS MACARTHUR . . . SELDOM FOUND FIRST & ONLY EDITION . * President Manuel Luis QUEZON ~1878-1944 [aka: MLQ] . With a lovely intimate "Publisher's Note" by long-time Quezon friend and colleague, W. Morgan Shuster. . *** Subtitle continued: "Principles of America, who inculcated them in his own people, and who forty years later threw himself and his brave countrymen back into the hell of Bataan and Corregidor when the American flag was attacked by a treacherous enemy. This story is told in President Quezon's own words." . This is a stunning and revealing primary resource. The former president met and consulted with President Roosevelt, Premier Churchill, among the World War 2 allies along with close consultation with Douglas Mac Arthur during the late 1940-1945 period. . An intimate insight & keen personal perspective on Quezon, his philosophy, hunger for democracy, anti-Japanese campaigns, defense of Manila and counter to the Japanese. . His autobiography reaches back into his early days, romance, law studies, the revolution, Manila, legislation, election to the presidency, executive problems, many visits to United States, meetings with Roosevelt, Churchill and other major allies. . The Corregidor and Bataan situations, communications with Washington, to Australia and the U.S.A. The staunch support of MacArthur. . With a lovely and poignant introduction by General Douglas MacArthur, along with an intimate inscribed photograph of MacArthur to Quezon. . *** ABOUT QUEZON: During his presidency, Quezon tackled the problem of landless peasants. Other major decisions included the reorganization of the islands' military defense, approval of a recommendation for government reorganization, the promotion of settlement and development in Mindanao, dealing with the foreign stranglehold on Philippine trade and commerce, proposals for land reform, and opposing graft and corruption within the government. He established a government in exile in the U.S. with the outbreak of World War II and the threat of Japanese invasion. Scholars have described Quezon's leadership as a "de facto dictatorship" and described him as "the first Filipino politician to integrate all levels of politics into a synergy of power" after removing his term limits as president and turning the Senate into an extension of the executive through constitutional amendments. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: The book is bound in the original publisher's black pebbled cloth with cover & spine titles in gold.
