Add to basketGENERAL LEE was a highly influential biography written by Fitzhugh Lee and published in 1894 by D. Appleton and Company as part of their famous "Great Commanders" series. FREE SHIPPING within contiguous U.S.
The author, Fitzhugh Lee, was not just an outside historian; he was Robert E. Lee?s nephew. More importantly, he was a West Point graduate who served as a major general and commander of the Cavalry Corps in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. Because he fought directly alongside his uncle, the book blends meticulous military tracking with intimate family knowledge.
One of the most valuable aspects of Fitzhugh Lee's biography was his inclusion of Robert E. Lee?s private family correspondence. Robert E. Lee famously never wrote his own post-war memoirs. Fitzhugh utilized his family access to embed personal letters into the chapters, giving the reading public their first real glimpse into Robert E. Lee?s private thoughts, doubts, and personal motivations during the conflict.
D. Appleton and Company designed their "Great Commanders" series to create definitive, high-quality biographies of history's most successful military leaders The original 1894 edition was uniquely bound in green or grey cloth and featured a distinct, stamped gold or silver circular medallion profile of Robert E. Lee on the front cover.
Condition is fair with slight separation of binding at spine. This book is over 130 years old. Please see pictures for condition reference.
