Print on Demand. This book explores the economic challenges facing classical musicians and the music profession at large. The author argues that the oversupply of musicians and the precarious financial position of many performers is a problem that needs to be addressed through collective action. Drawing on examples from the orchestral world, teaching profession, and concert circuit, the book demonstrates the urgent need for a unified musicians' union to improve the livelihoods and working conditions of all musicians. The author proposes a detailed plan for such a union, outlining its potential benefits and the challenges it would face. Ultimately, the book argues that the success and vitality of music as an art depends on the economic security of its practitioners. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The gist of this book is thus the proposal for such a Union and a detailed sketch scheme is given in Chapter II. This proposal should be seriously considered by all interested in Music, whether professionally or as amateurs, it should, however, be taken as nothing more than a fairly full sketch of such a scheme. Needless to say that the author will only be too delighted to receive suggestions and criticisms of the scheme, which would be duly considered by any Com mittee formed to carry it into effect.
