Functionalized Nanofibers: Synthesis and Industrial Applications presents the latest advances in the fabrication, design, processing, and properties of functionalized nanofibers for a range of advanced applications. Sections introduce fabrication, mechanisms, and design of functionalized nanofibers, explaining electrospinning and non-electrospinning techniques, optimization of structural designs, surface functionalization techniques, and characterization methods. Subsequent sections focus on specific application areas, highlighting preparation methods and applications of functionalized nanofibers across biomedicine, surfaces and coatings, food, environment, energy, electronics, and textiles. Finally, environmental impact and safety and legal aspects related to the utilization of functionalized nanofibers are considered.
This is a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students with an interest in nanomaterials and nanotechnology, and across other disciplines such as polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science and engineering.
- Integrates discussions of physics, chemistry, biology and materials science behind functionalized nanofibers
- Opens the door to a range of applications across biomedicine, surfaces and coatings, food, environment, energy, electronics and textiles
- Analyzes challenges and opportunities relating to environmental, health and safety issues

About the Author
Dr. Kalim Deshmukh is a senior researcher at the New Technologies Research Centre, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czech Republic. He has over 20 years of research experience in nanomaterials and polymeric materials, with particular expertise in polymer blends, nanocomposites, and nanohybrids. His work emphasizes nanoscale dispersion, interfacial chemistry, and structure–property relationships that influence material performance in applications such as energy storage, gas sensing, biosensing, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and high-k dielectrics. He has authored more than 200 publications, including original research articles and review papers, in leading international journals and with major publishers, such as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), American Chemical Society (ACS), Elsevier, Wiley-VCH, Springer, and Taylor & Francis. In addition to his research contributions, he has edited or co-edited several books published by ACS, RSC, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley-VCH, and Wiley Scrivener.
Dr. S. K. Khadheer Pasha obtained his M.Sc. degree in Physics from Osmania University, followed by an MPhil degree from Anna University, and PhD degree in physics from the Department of Physics, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), India. He is currently working as a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, VIT-AP University. He has about seven years of teaching and 12 years of research experience. His research is mainly focused on the synthesis of nanocomposite materials for various applications such as energy storage, gas sensors, and EMI shielding.
Dr. Ahmed Barhoum is an Associate Professor of nanomaterials science and Head of the Nanostruc Research Group (Helwan University). He is currently working at the DCU University (Ireland). His research interests include the synthesis of nanomaterials for catalysis, drug delivery, and biosensing. He has won several scientific awards and prizes: Helwan University Prizes (Egypt, 2020 & 2019), CAS Fellowship (China, 2019), IFE Fellowships (France, 2012 & 2018), FWO Fellowships (Belgium, 2015 & 2016), Medastar Erasmus Mundus (Belgium, 2012), Welcome Program (Italy, 2012) and many more. He serves as an expert evaluator for the National Science Centre (NCN, Poland), Czech Science Foundation (GACR, Russia), Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF, Switzerland), and Innovators Support Fund (ISF, Egypt), among others. He is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, Frontiers in Nanotechnology, Nanomaterials, and editor of 10 handbooks (Elsevier and Springer Nature), PI/Co-PI of 12 projects, and co-author of 150 publications.
Prof. Chaudhery Mustansar Hussain, PhD, is an adjunct professor and director of laboratories in the Department of Chemistry & Environmental Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, New Jersey, United States. His research focuses on sustainability, the applications of nanotechnology and advanced materials, environmental management, analytical chemistry and other various industries. Dr. Hussain is the author of numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as a prolific author and editor of around 200 books, including scientific monographs and handbooks in his research areas. He has published with ELSEVIER, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, John Wiley & Sons, CRC Press, and Springer.
