Scarce, antique mesmerism book by "the most successful Mesmerist in America," - "Full and Comprehensive Instructions - HOW TO MESMERIZE; Ancient and Modern Miracles by Mesmerism. Also, IS SPIRITUALISM TRUE?" by Prof. J.W. Cadwell. 1882 2nd edition (stated); Published by the Author; Boston. Softcover with 128 pages. Caldwell was a prominent 19th-century traveling stage hypnotist and mesmerist in America. During the late 1800's he toured widely, performing public demonstrations of "animal magnetism" and stage hypnotism while teaching others how to mesmerize. Here are some examples of the contents: Necessity of property surroundings; Who can be mesmerised; One way to magnetize subjects; How to restore subjects to consciousness; How to develop Clairvoyant vision; Process for charming subjects; Writing between closed states; The Electrical Theory of control; Wonderful manifestations; "Miraculous" cures by mesmerism; Mysterious voices in presence of subject.and much more. Mesmerism is a medical theory and treatment method that served as the direct forerunner to modern hypnosis. Developed by the German physician Franz Anton Mesmer, it was built on the premise that an invisible, natural magnetic fluid flows through all living things. Mesmer believed that illnesses were caused by obstacles or imbalances in this fluid, and that health could be restored by manipulating these invisible currents.
