Canada's first feminist literary journal, featuring contributions from leading North American Icelandic writers including Stephan G. Stephansson, Sigurdur Julius Johannsson, etc. as well as Canadian feminist leader Nellie McClung. One issue only, being Vol. V, No. 11, June,1903, pp. 173-192. Disbound and restapled, otherwise Very Good. 22 X 15 cm. in size. Icelandic Canadian scholar Wilhelm Kristjanson in his book, The Icelandic People of Manitoba (p. 373) states that "Freya is to be rated a literary magazine as well as a woman sufrage journal. Featured were serial stories, biographical sketches of prominent people . . .,; poetry of a high order, including poems by Stephan G. Stephansson, Kiristinn Stefansson, Sig. Jul. Johannesson, Th. Th. Thorsteinsson and Magnus Markusson, literary reviews and a childrens' corner". This is an early publication in the North American Icelandic canon. Hjartar points out in Vesturheimsprent that this journal was published from 1898/99-1909/10). Bookseller Inventory # 35323
