Item description from seller

12mo. 21, [1] pp. Numerous text illustrations, photos, rubricated in red. Colour-illustrated self-printed wrappers, grill of 1931 Studebaker on front cover, birds-eye views of plant and proving grounds on back cover (minor shelfwear, slight dustsoiling), VG copy, from the collection of Albert Colson (1898-1975), World War I veteran, who trained to fly with the Portland-Based Dudrey Aircraft Company, and Adolphe Colson (b. 1855), Belgian immigrant, who worked as machinist for assorted automobile dealerships in the 1920s. In 1930, Studebaker heralded the introduction of their Free Wheeling innovation to save on gasoline, oil, and engine wear. The driver could engage the free wheeling option which basically was a sprag clutch on the output shaft, which unfortunately proved to be quite dangerous as the momentum of the vehicle was freed from drag created by the engine, and 1930s brake systems left a great deal to be desired.
