Free From Religion is a bold and compassionate invitation to move beyond fear-based belief systems and rediscover a living, personal connection with the Divine.
Written from lived experience rather than theory, this book explores how many religious structures-while often rooted in truth-have been shaped over time by human ego, control, and the need for certainty. The result is a form of spirituality that emphasizes performance, conformity, and external authority rather than genuine inner transformation.
But what if true spirituality was never meant to be confined to rules, institutions, or inherited beliefs?
What if it was always about awakening to unconditional love... and learning how to live from it?
In Free From Religion, Gil Hodges guides readers through a powerful process of recognizing and untethering from unconscious programming-beliefs and agreements absorbed in childhood and reinforced by culture, community, and tradition. Drawing from psychology, neuroscience, and the wisdom of multiple spiritual paths, he reveals how these patterns shape identity, perception, and even the body itself.
More importantly, he shows how they can be rewritten.
This book invites you to examine:
- How ego quietly hijacks spiritual systems and replaces freedom with control
- The impact of early programming on your beliefs about God, self, and reality
- Why conditional religion produces anxiety-and how unconditional love dissolves it
- The hidden cost of exclusivity and the deeper unity found across spiritual traditions
- How to move from external authority to conscious awareness and personal truth
- What it looks like to live a life rooted in love rather than fear
At its core, Free From Religion is not about rejecting spirituality-it is about reclaiming it.
It offers a pathway into spiritual maturity where beliefs are no longer inherited but consciously chosen, where love is not earned but realized, and where your relationship with the Divine becomes direct, alive, and deeply personal.
This is not a call to abandon your journey.
It is a call to awaken within it.
If you have ever questioned what you were taught...
If you have felt confined by systems that promised freedom...
If you sense there is something more-something real, something alive...
This book was written for you.
Freedom is not found in the right system.
It is found in conscious awareness, courageous choice, and the rediscovery of unconditional love.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
