The cover illustration, printed in deep, midnight-blue, speaks to the artistic zeitgeist that was in the air in midcentury Europe. It seems to be a reproduction of a well-executed linocut. The glassy-eyed bearded head in the foreground and the smaller standing man in the background, combined with the many exuberant lines radiating from the celestial figure at the top strongly suggests the psychological disruption caused by religious or mystical awe. ************************************** Ricordi was, of course, the publisher of many works written for the opera. This is a small paperback reprint from Ricordi. The rear cover has a couple of tiny stains. Slight splitting to spine extremities. Slight abrasion to spine , which is also creased and slightly darkened. The interior is nice and clean.
