3pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with a full-page portrait of the subject, engraved by Johnson, with facsimile signature, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, Volume XLV, No. 1, November, 1892. From the editor's footnote, "This essay was undertaken at our request by Mr Lowell, and was left unfinished at his death. It has the melancholy interest of being the last piece of writing prepared by him for publication." The Eggleston piece celebrates the completion of Parkman's series of historical narratives. Housed in protective mylar report cover.
