"A Sort of Life" and "Ways of Escape" are both included in this one volume. From his vivid childhood memories of life amid the Greene "clan" in an English village, his traumatic schooldays and unlikely adolescent psychoanalysis, to his first triumphant breakthrough as an author "A Sort of Life" recaptures the drama of the novelist's early years. Continuing where this book left off, the second part of the novelist's autobiography offers an engaging account of his encounters, struggles, successes and failures as a writer, as he travels across the globe, from Liberiato to Hollywood and from Mexico to Malaya.
