Original brown paper board binding with calf spine, in heavy disrepair. Spine hinges are split, and spine itself has been worn away at both top and bottom, leaving text-block exposed. Corners and edges of boards are greatly exposed, and there is discoloration from historic dampstain on rear board. Ownership information and penmanship practice on all blank pages, including flyleaf and pastedowns. Interior pages are foxed and spotted, but without other markings. Organized in three parts, with the first part giving instruction in how to read aloud, the second part consists of prose exercises in reading, and the third part consists of poetry exercises. The Reverend Salem Town, L.L.D. was born in Belchertown, Massachusetts in 1779, was educated at Middlebury College, and taught in New York state for forty years. Hardcover, acceptable condition. 408 pages, 12mo.
